High School Partnerships are intensive collaborations with regional high schools that relate the arts, and opera in particular, to other disciplines and to the students' lives. The partnerships incorporate resident artists in the classroom, attendance at a New York City Opera performance and rehearsals, a backstage visit, and staff development.

Pre-professional Workshops are available to arts magnet high schools as a supplement to classes in advanced vocal studies, instrumental orchestral music or opera. Workshops include seminars in advanced vocal studies and instrumental orchestral music and master classes by leading NYCO artists, with final presentations on the stage of the New York State Theater. Orchestral sectional rehearsals conducted by members of the NYCO orchestra are also available.

Internships are offered to selected high school students following High School Partnership residencies. The students have the opportunity for in-depth internships in every aspect of opera production and administration.

The New York City Opera Assembly Program is tailored for private and parochial high schools as an in-depth introduction to opera. City Opera's singers, designers, directors and administrators are available for multiple school assembly visits as a preface to performance attendance at the New York State Theatre. Each school visit focuses on a particular aspect of the studied opera and is tailored for the individual school.

The Opera in a Nutshell experience offers rehearsal and performance opportunities for high school orchestral musicians. For each Nutshell workshop, instrumental music students arrive at the New York State Theater and are guided through a day of orchestra rehearsals. Finally, a concert version of the opera with City Opera main stage New York City Opera artists culminates the day. This program is available to students in the
Tri-State area and requires an application and registration fee.
